Caroline Metcalf
SENIOR BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT MANAGER
BECHTEL
At the age of 16 I had decided i wanted a career that would take me overseas, allow me to problem-solve and get stuck in to get the job done.
Having studied Chemical Engineering, I started at Bechtel as a process engineer in 1987. I had my first overseas assignment to Bahrain in 1989 as construction supervisor - I was the only woman in the site team.
I have spent over 20 years working overseas in different countries through the Middle East, Asia and Europe on large multi-billion dollar projects as Construction Manager and as Project Manager.
I have had the opportunity to work on all types of projects from oil and gas, aluminium smelters and major infrastructure projects including Senior Project Manager on the Elizabeth line. Today I am focused on developing and shaping our business to support energy transition.
This is an amazing industry to work in. You see results and change on a daily basis, so it’s very rewarding, too.
Stay authentic and don’t adopt other styles. Be yourself. Diversity is essential in bringing the best out of teams and delivering projects successfully.
Did you know, I raced hobie cats for Team GB in the 90’s?!
