PROJECT CO-ORDINATOR

HDR

I’m a Project Co-ordinator for a construction consultancy. I hold a Master’s in Architectural Engineering from the National Technical University of Athens and a second Master’s in Urban Design in Development from The Bartlett School of Architecture.

After working as an architect, I decided to make a career change and pursue a career in Project Management. I’m now working on Data Centre projects where I get to develop my organisational, problem-solving skills and communication skills.

In my role, I am the point of contact for all those working on a project. I have to maintain a balance between everyone involved and manage their expectations, as well as to deliver on budget and on time. I need to have a good understanding of the whole construction process and this is precisely what excites me about the job.

Being a woman in the construction industry is not always easy - especially as a young professional. You are likely to feel like your knowledge and opinions do not carry the same weight as your male counterparts. The lack of women in the industry is also a big challenge, as it can both lead to unwanted treatment coming from men, but also to feelings of isolation: when the number of women in your office is limited, it’s not as easy to network with other women. This basically means you might have less access to support.

However, I do genuinely believe the construction industry is a wonderful field to work in, as you get to have a positive and concrete effect on your community throughout the entire scope of your career. Have confidence, be committed, be passionate.
