Vicky Theodorou
SENIOR ARCHITECT
BEN ADAMS ARCHITECTS
I am a Cypriot architect who has lived and worked in London since 2013. With eight years experience at Foster + Partners, I have worked on many ground-breaking projects, always pushing the boundaries for the best possible outcome.
I currently work at Ben Adams Architects, focusing on historic building refurbishment projects in central London, and am interested in high-end hospitality and the influence it has on different sectors.
I’m determined to create a more equitable and inclusive profession for all, with the hope that each generation of female architects that follows will find it easier to make an impact and leave their mark through their work.
The idea of taking part in shaping the built environment and creating the cities of the future drew me to work in this industry. There is also a balance between creativity and technical knowledge which I always found intriguing, in combination with the constant learning that happens throughout an Architect’s career. There’s always a new challenge to face at each project!
Being passionate about interior design, I am a collector of mid-century modern design items!
I am good at building lasting client relationships. I am a critical thinker and problem solver.
It can sometimes be difficult for women to find their voice and use it in this industry. It can be a challenge to earn respect (particularly during the early stages of our careers) so that we can eventually have a seat at the table and participate in the decision-making process. It can also be challenging to balance a career with motherhood (similarly to most demanding professions).
But follow your heart, and never settle for something that doesn’t make you happy. It’s a very demanding profession so it takes serious commitment to see it through. Studying Architecture doesn’t necessarily mean you have to practise as an Architect, but the thought process and transferrable skills could be used in numerous different fields.
